Executive Chief Digital and Information Officer, NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board

Shaukat Ali Khan is the Executive CDIO, Executive Director, and Board Member of the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Integrated Care System (ICS). In this pivotal role, he is leading the modernization of healthcare systems, enhancing operational efficiency, and empowering clinicians to create a future ready healthcare ecosystem. He oversees the Digital, Data, and Technology (DDaT) Directorate and chairs leadership forums, driving initiatives that benefit 2.4 million residents across multiple regions, while ensuring seamless IT support is provided to over 100,000 users across a vast network of healthcare providers.

Prior to joining the NHS, Shaukat served as Global CIO at the Aga Khan University (AKU), managing ICT systems and services for over 32,000 users across AKU’s extensive network of hospitals, medical centres, and academic institutions in Asia, Africa, and the United Kingdom. He also held the role of CIO at the University of Central Asia, spearheading digital transformation across 15 locations in four countries.

Shaukat’s career includes his tenure at Novo Nordisk in Denmark, where he served as Head of IT Production Infrastructure and Global Senior IT Infrastructure Architect, providing IT support to over 60,000 employees across 80 countries. He also contributed at UNICEF HQ in Copenhagen, specialising in integrating global data networks and advancing IT operations.

With more than two decades of international experience spanning healthcare, education, pharmaceuticals, humanitarian, defense and hospitality, Shaukat is recognised as a thought leader in the IT industry. He holds a master’s degree in computer science from the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden and is a certified Dynamic Manager and Leader from Harvard Business School.

Shaukat’s achievements have earned him over 50 national and international accolades, including the DXInspire Award and the World CIO 200 Legend Award. In 2023, he was honoured with the "Thought Leader's Excellence Award" by the President of Pakistan and nominated as Pakistan’s candidate for the role of Chief Information Technology Officer – Assistant Secretary General at the United Nations.

In addition to his leadership roles, Shaukat has organised international conferences attended by high-profile figures, including heads of state. He has hosted lectures featuring technology pioneers such as Vint Cerf and Toomas Ilves, contributed articles on emerging technologies to leading newspapers globally, and is a sought after commentator on technology trends in international media.
