Gilbert Mutai is a seasoned business and technology executive with over a decade of leadership in ICT strategy, digital transformation, and large-scale technology programmes across East Africa — spanning Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. As Chief Information Officer at Car and General PLC, he drives enterprise-wide digital transformation that has measurably improved customer experience, operational efficiency, and business performance across the group. He is an active member of the Executive Advisory Committee, serving to ensure tight alignment between technology investment and business objectives. Gilbert is also the founding architect of Cargen Navigate, the group’s technology services and solutions arm. AREAS OF EXPERTISE Gilbert brings deep expertise across ICT strategy and governance, digital transformation, and ERP implementation — having led the end-to-end SAP/HANA rollout across Car and General’s East Africa operations. His technical foundations span cybersecurity and IT risk management, business intelligence and analytics (Qlik Sense, Power BI, Google Studio), and cloud and infrastructure architecture, including a managed transition from MPLS to SD-WAN. He holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and brings hands-on experience in IS audit and compliance from his time at PwC, as well as in fintech and mobile payment integrations, including M-Pesa and Cellulant platforms. RECOGNITION & AWARDS Gilbert’s leadership has earned recognition across the global technology community. He is a graduate of the Oxford Executive Leadership Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford (2026), and was appointed to the IDC CIO Advisory Council for 2023/24. In 2023, he was named a World CIO 200 Transformative Technology Leader by the Global CIO Forum Committee, and received the Africa CIO Gold Award for Digital Transformation from DX100 (formerly CIO Africa). His professional grounding was shaped by his early career as an IT Risk Consultant and IS Auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Kenya, where he advised major financial institutions and corporates across East and Central Africa on governance, compliance, and ICT security.
