Alexandra Butler is a digital and data leader with 20 years’ senior experience across UK government, higher education, the charity sector and broadcasting. She has played a pivotal role in digital government, leading Directgov, the world’s first consolidated online public services platform, and launching data.gov.uk with Sir Tim Berners-Lee, helping to build a thriving open data community. 

Since then, Alex has held Chief Digital and Information Officer and Executive Director roles at the University of Bath, Citizens Advice and Sport England, delivering large-scale, complex transformation programmes led by people, not technology.

In 2024, Alex was named in the UK CIO100 and received an Industry Recognition Award for her work on Responsible AI, reflecting a career centred on ethics and human impact. She is a fractional consultant, Non-Executive Director of the Royal Agricultural University and Trustee of Royal Museums Greenwich.

Alex brings resilience, influence and an appetite for challenge to every organisation she works with.
